Did you know: The Largest Temple of Ancient Greece Was Built for Hera?

The Heraion of Samos was one of the most important sanctuaries in ancient Greece, dedicated to the goddess Hera, the patron of marriage and family. The site, which dates back to the Late Bronze Age (around 1700 BC), holds a sacred place in Greek myth, as legend claims Hera was born there beneath a willow tree.

The Heraion is most famous for its colossal temple—the first monumental free-standing Ionic temple ever built. The structure was so grand that the historian Herodotus described a later version as "the largest temple of all the temples we have seen." Today, the site is recognized for its historical and artistic significance, earning it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Read here.
