On Tuesday, we hosted our IG live series with guest speaker Andriana Mitrakos from embodyapeiron.com, an English-speaking therapy platform for expats. Here are some top tips from our Instagram Live this week ft. Andriana

  1. Plan ahead: if you’re making the move soon, do some research and plan your first couple of events in Greece before hopping on the plane. When you land, you’ll have things to look forward to that will help you explore Greece, and get situated with less lag time.

  2. Discover subcultures: Being an expat is part of your identity, but it’s not the only part! Don’t limit yourself to expat communities - discover subcultures that interest you (tech, fitness, arts, etc) and use their “universal language” to connect with locals in those communities.

  3. Embrace the “third culture”: There is beauty in the blend. Maintain your favorite home traditions, stay curious about Greek culture, recognize shared values, and look for the unique balance between the two.

  4. Give yourself time: Initial adjustment may take 6-12 months, but really feeling at “home” can take up to 5 years. Give yourself time, stay present and active, and explore the small things that can make you feel at home (ex. your favorite Tuesday sweet treat from your local bakery!)
