🇬🇷 Greece Takes Center Stage at the Met While Tax Authorities Target Influencers

After a 4-week break, we're officially back!

👋 Hey there expats,

In this week’s newsletter, we’re sharing with you our weekly roundup of news in Greece, concerning bureaucracy, immigration or administrative changes, tax and real estate.

Did you know? Greece is pushing even harder into full digital tax enforcement

Greece’s official tax authority (AADE) is accelerating its AI-powered compliance systems in 2026. This week, there’s been more importance placed on digital invoicing, social media income tracking, property ownership visibility and real-time financial cross-checking. Businesses now face tighter reporting obligations beginning May 2026.

What this means for expats:

  • More difficult to “operate casually” without declaring income

  • Increased automation in tax audits

  • Faster digital processing

  • More pressure for freelancers/business owners to stay compliant.

This will also concern influencers, digital creators, freelancers, Airbnb operators and online businesses.

🏛️Ancient Greece Took Over the Met Gala

Ancient Greek aesthetics unexpectedly became one of the biggest inspirations at the Met Gala, with celebrities channeling marble statues, goddesses, and classical draping on the red carpet. 👉Why Professional Guidance is Recommended for Your Greek Visa 🇬🇷

Applying for a Greek Visa D, Financially Independent Person (FIP) or Digital Nomad residency permit without professional guidance can lead to costly delays, rejections, or even starting the process over entirely. We see many applications refused not because the applicant is ineligible, but because financial documents are presented incorrectly, paperwork is incomplete, or the purpose of stay does not align properly with immigration requirements.

One of the biggest issues we see is applicants receiving approval for the Visa D abroad, only to later discover they do not qualify for the three-year FIP residence permit once inside Greece. Greek consulates and local immigration authorities do not always apply the same standards, which is why proper guidance from the beginning can save significant time, stress, travel costs, and unnecessary setbacks.

At My Greek Expat Journey, we assist expats from around the world in obtaining their residency permits and handling other administrative tasks.
