✏️ Notes from our Founder
Hey there fellow expats ✌️
We hope you are having a wonderful week, full of bliss, joy and adventure! 🤪🇬🇷 This newsletter edition is slightly different from our usual ones, as we bring you a special note from our founder.
Our biggest WHY at My Greek Expat Journey is making people feel at home when they move abroad.
This WHY reflects my own personal story. My expat journey started on an airplane when I was one year old, flying from the UK to South East Asia to a place called Vietnam. We stayed there until I turned 14, then moved to Bangkok and the UK for school.
Throughout all of these years, I desperately searched for this feeling called "home". I've been an expat my whole life, with my parents from two different cultures, struggling to find my own sense of belonging and purpose in this world. I even felt envious of people who found their sense of identity through their culture, because it seemed that I wasn't able to identify with any.
From experience, I know that moving abroad isn't easy. You're faced with a language barrier, BIG cultural differences (depending on your country of origin), no friends or family for support as you're entering the unknown. It's a risk and it's challenging as hell, but the reward is big and unforeseen.
What I asked myself prior to starting my business was, what if you could feel REALLY at home in a foreign country where you don't speak the language? Where you don't have any family or friends? Where you had to start over? What if there was a platform or community that finally makes it easy, which gives you access to a list of key people that will actually make a difference within your first month of arrival?
